You will note that for the contender on 'Star Wars' I further added 'inactive' next to Brandon Erickson's name as he has not submitted anything since 2005. I'd recommend a title that has been in the hands of someone for 5+ years with no second score even close, and as for 'contender' that could mean anyone viable that has the realistic potential to take the score down. I suppose in all fairness parameters need to be loosely considered for who can make such list, nothing official, just common sense.

I'll update the list as new nominees are identified. And I separated the 'new' nominations form the original ones since this is a bumped thread from 2006. Rather than an EXCEL enclosure, here is a text-based recap of every nomination thus far. That said, I still agree with some of these.

But scale up participation and offer incentives and these 'undisputed champions' would quickly find themselves up against serious contenders. Granted, there's a selection bias at work that chooses for people who have a natural talent for this stuff, and quickly weeds out and discourages those who don't (unless you're Allen Staal :) ). There are only a couple hundred active participants in this hobby. And those are *tournaments*, played in a 48 hour window! Cracking a million MIGHT get you a top 3 spot in today's Donkey Kong Opens (never mind a Kong Off), but it would take low participation to manage a win with just a million. I think that over the last few years the DK phenomenon has shown us that when you get a bunch of people interested in a game and vying for it, not just the usual two or three, that's when you start to see how 'unbeatable' the record REALLY is.ĭuplicating Billy's 874K DK score that stood for 20 years and intimidated everyone would get you an 'intermediate player' classification nowadays.
